Castles and manor houses in Dordogne Périgord

The Dordogne department: land of a thousand and one castles! In the Middle Ages, Aquitaine, and the Dordogne in particular, was a major area of conflict between France and England: the famous Hundred Years' War. The region was covered with more than a thousand fortified castles. Overlooking the Vézère valley or the Dordogne valley on rocky spurs, but also in Purple Périgord and White Périgord.

From fortified buildings to Renaissance palaces and fortified houses, come and discover the exceptional architectural heritage of the Périgord in a region steeped in history.
