Gouffre de Padirac

Reality is beyond imagination!

Welcome to Gouffre de Padirac

Near Rocamadour, Le Gouffre de Padirac is in the Dordogne Valley on the Causse du Quercy in the Lot department, an hour's drive from Paris. Sarlat.

The Gouffre de Padirac officially opened its lair to the public on April 10, 1899. At the time, it was one of France's top tourist attractions of the 19th century. The site is still in excellent condition and has not changed since then. Only the reception building was rebuilt in 1930, to provide a comfortable, adapted entrance for the public.

Without a doubt, the Padirac chasm is the most beautiful in France, and its dimensions are out of the ordinary: first of all, a 35-meter-diameter, 103-meter-deep shaft that can be contemplated from above, but also from below, with its vertiginous view. The descent can be made by elevator or staircase.
At the bottom of the cave, you'll discover the entrance to an underground network no less than 42 km long. Walk down to the first gallery, which leads to an underground lake. Here, a boatman awaits you for a discovery tour.
Once on the opposite bank, your guide will take you to marvel at the work of time. Giant limestone concretions, underground lakes, incredible sculptures in the shape of pendeloque, piles of plates or anything else you and your children can imagine... everything is highlighted to magnify the different caverns, impressive stalactites and stalagmites, and nooks and crannies each more surprising than the last.

Private explorer tour

Spend an evening experiencing the incredible underground adventure of the Gouffre de Padirac, as Edouard-Alfred Martel experienced it in 1889, on his first descent into what was then known as the "Devil's Hole". Illuminated by lantern, you'll experience the Gouffre to the full in the silence, darkness and coolness.

Le Gouffre will be recounted to you through the many writings and testimonies left to us by Edouard-Alfred Martel... an extraordinary multi-sensory experience and a privileged discovery of the natural wonders of this site that has never ceased to amaze us since 1889!
