This bastide, the oldest in Périgord, is famous for its seasonal cep market and chestnuts.
Village in southern Périgord Noirin the Pays des Bastides et Cités Médiévales region, on the Lot and Lot-et-Garonne borders.
On the borders of the Périgord, Quercy and Haut Agenais regions, the bastide town of Villefranche-du-Périgord, ordered by Alphonse de Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis, was founded by seneschal Guillaume de Barriols and received its charter of franchise in 1261. After many vicissitudes, through wars and then religious events, it arrived as we know it at the dawn of the 21st century.
