Gabares Norbert
Gabare boat trips in La Roque Gageac, Dordogne
Welcome to Gabares Norbert: guided tours on the Dordogne River
Les Gabares NORBERT a family-run business committed to passing on the values and authenticity of the Périgord heritage, is dedicated to perpetuating the history, traditions and lives of the boatmen of yesteryear.
The "gabare" or "gabarre" is a type of traditional flat-bottomed boat once used for transporting goods on the Dordogne River.
As you travel along the water on an authentic reproduction of an 18th-century gabare, you'll relive the days when all transportation (wine, wood, fish, salt, chestnuts, truffles...) was carried out by boat, often under difficult conditions.
The tour starts at the pier in La Roque Gageac, "3rd favorite village of the French", and takes you to the Castelnaud bridge overlooked by the 12th-century castleThis part of the river offers a unique account of the history of Périgord and its castles, as well as an original way to discover nature, its animals and its vegetation.
Our hostesses, captains and sailors will be delighted to welcome you and make your river trip an unforgettable and cultural experience!
All our itineraries are commented and last 55 minutes.
