Maison de la Châtaigne
Ecomuseum of chestnuts and Perigord undergrowth
Welcome to the chestnut house
Chestnuts are an emblematic fruit of the Périgord Noir, just like ceps and truffles.
The house of the chestnut located at Villefranche du Périgord, a 13th century bastide, invites you to discover the world of chestnuts, their culture and their various culinary and industrial uses.
Through 4 themed rooms, with free and open access, you will discover in a playful way all the secrets of chestnut and chestnut trees as well as the different guests of the forests of the Dordogne.
At the end of the visit, the Maison du Châtaignier invites you to explore the chestnut nature trail, a 1500 m signposted educational trail evoking the different aspects of the tree and its culture.
The visit lasts about 60 minutes and can be guided by appointment.
A shop offers you different products around chestnuts and mushrooms from local producers.
