La Filature de Belvès
Discovering the craft and industrial heritage
Welcome to the Belvès Wool Spinning Mill
Located at the foot of the village of Belvès classified "most beautiful villages in France" in an old mill in the Nauze valley, with its impressive engine room, the Belvès woollen mill testifies to the industrial heritage in Périgord.
In the footsteps of the workers, visit the spinning mill through demonstrations, interactive exhibitions, follow the transformation from raw wool to yarn. Games, slide shows, videos, information panels and models will allow young and old to discover wool fibre in all its forms.
Experiment with the gestures of wool: it's up to you to handle the chards and the spindle! Discover impressive industrial tools from the beginning of the 20th century that have been preserved: the wolf-card, the winder, the winder...
Animations included in the rates. Treasure hunt all year round. Workshops for Easter, summer and All Saints' Day holidays.
Throughout the year many courses are offered (weaving, knitting, sewing etc.), to find out the dates of the courses. consult our agenda
The Vintage escape game: the investigation at the spinning mill
Our machines are at a standstill. But do you know why? We have 6 employees, we suspect that one of them has dismantled a part essential to the proper functioning of the machines! They've been working with us for a long time, so we think the culprit has a good reason, but what is it?
So we are waiting for you to solve the investigation at the tail!
The shop:
The shop offers you a wide variety of wool yarn of various origins and colours, as well as local handicrafts, and felt items produced by our machine: caps, potholders, oven gloves, phone and eyeglass pouches. But also DIY kits to make yourself a small bag or a Cosy for the teapot. There is no lack of ideas... You will also find a selection of books and toys.
Discover also the 2 other sites of the association over time :
– The Rouzique Mill
– The gardens of Limeuil
