Roque Saint Christophe
La Roque Saint-Christophe Trology Fort and City
La Roque Saint Christophe Troglodyte Fort and City
Halfway between LES EYZIES and MONTIGNAC-LASCAUX, the cliffs of the ROQUE SAINT CHRISTOPHE.
This veritable wall of limestone, 1 km long and 80 m high, constantly undermined by river and frost, has been hollowed out by a hundred or so rock shelters and long aerial terraces. These natural caves have been occupied by man since prehistoric times (55,000 years ago), then modified in the Middle Ages to become a troglodytic fort and city until the early Renaissance.
Visit La Roque Saint Christophe
As soon as you arrive at the site, your eyes will be drawn to the breathtaking panorama of the Vézère Valley. La roque Saint Christophe is a unique troglodyte dwelling, with a succession of testimonies to the different periods of occupation from prehistory to the Middle Ages.

Halloween and All Saints' Day vacation 2024 at La Roque Saint-Christophe
This year, we are offering 4 vacation highlights:
- Pascalour prehistoric music animator returns for his animation "Music of Origins. Installed along the tour route, he introduces visitors to the musical instruments of our ancestors: percussion instruments, flutes and a lithophone. He's an incredible orchestra conductor who gets visitors to join in, coordinating rhythms to create a veritable paleo concert at the end of the session! Using his knowledge as a cultural mediator, he explains the origins of music, the birth of the first instruments all over the world and in our region. Fascinating and entertaining!
Pascal will be present on October 21, 22, 28, 29 and 31, 2024 from 2pm to 5:30pm (no extra charge)
- Some guided tours with demonstration of medieval lifting equipment will be carried out in the morning at 11:15 and in the afternoon at 15:15, every day except Saturday.
- A riddle game will offer children a paper-based introduction to the life of the "Cliff People", the inhabitants of rock shelters in troglodytic towns like La Roque Saint-Christophe, in the Middle Ages.
- October 31st in the afternoon, les MamM'Zelles Maquillages will be on hand to decorate the faces of children (and adults!) in preparation for a colorful Halloween evening!
