Saint Martial Church of Paunat
The church of Saint-Martial is the abbey of one of the oldest abbeys of Périgord, it has been classified as historical monuments since 1956. The beginning of its construction dates back to the sixth century when the village of Paunat was founded.
But like most religious buildings and castles, it has undergone numerous reshuffles, looting and destruction so that visible buildings now date from the 12th century.
The church is built in the Latin cross, it was conceived as a refuge for the inhabitants and monks of Paunat, it presents a rectangular choir.
The peculiarity of this church lies in its Imposing steeple-porch A height of 25 meters.
The beauty of the building is an attraction to come to Paunat, a small medieval village which is also very lively in summer during the gourmet markets of the region's producers.
