LES CHARMETTES is a beautifully restored Périgord farmhouse near Périgueux in the Dordogne. Surrounded by meadows and trees, the house offers every comfort and privacy.
It is ideally located for access to all activities in the regionand tourist centers. Fully equipped, including English TV and WiFi.
The gîte is ideal for nature lovers, where you can observe a wide range of animals: hares, hawks and buzzards, and many varieties of wild flowers and butterflies.
Description of the gîte les charmettes
Les Charmettes can accommodate two couples or a family of four, and is bright and airy.
The kitchen is fully equipped with hob, oven, fridge, dishwasher and coffee maker. A fireplace opens onto the kitchen and salon.
French television is available, as is free WiFi connectivity.
On the ground floor are 2 bedrooms: the master bedroom with its own bathroom, and at the end of the main hallway another double bedroom with its own toilet and shower room.
The upstairs bedroom has two beds and a magnificent view of the surrounding meadow.
Outside, there's an aft patio offering private sunbathing, and the terrace deck provides an excellent cool dining area for BBQs or even breakfast al fresco.
Located in the center of the Dordogne, the region abounds in outdoor activities. Easy access to tourist sites to suit all tastes and interests.
Pets are welcome. The chalet is a non-smoking area.
Nearby environment and activities
The gîte Les Charmettes is located in a triangle between Périgueux, Sarlat and Bergerac and therefore has convenient access to most of the areas attractions, whether sport, sightseeing and visiting, or the myriad of local markets and in-house events.
Amenities
There's a small supermarket in Rouffignac, about 7 minutes away. There's also an ATM and a newsagent who stocks English and Dutch newspapers as well as French ones, stationery, pens, postcards, etc.
To the east of Périgueux, there are two hypermarkets, located in shopping centers. There's a third hypermarket on the west side of Périgueux.
Rouffignac also has a bakery, as does La Douze, which is also nearby. There is a corner store at La Douze, similar to the one in Rouffignac.
For sports, there's a large sports store: Decathlon, located on the outskirts of Périgueux. Smaller sporting goods are available in a limited range at Carrefour Contact in Rouffignac.
Catering
St. Geyrac offers a limited menu in its bar/restaurant, as does the village of La Douze.
Further dining options include Chez Juliens at Paunat (30 minutes' drive) and Tremolat, which offers Relais & Châteaux restaurants.
You'll find plenty of restaurants in Périgueux. Place Saint-Louis is a very attractive square, surrounded by restaurants offering a very wide range of cuisine. Fans of Asian cuisine will not be disappointed, as Vietnamese/Chinese, Japanese and Indian flavors are also well served.
Sports activities
The region offers a multitude of sporting activities.
Golf. There is a golf courses about 8 minutes away, as well as the municipal course in Périgueux. Brive is about 40 minutes away. Château de Vigiers near Bergerac also has a golf course as well as its own vineyard/restaurant and other smaller courses can be found in the surrounding 30-minute drive.
Horse riding. There is a stable nearby offering horse/pony rides in the surrounding woods.
Canoeing: every village on the surrounding rivers offers canoeing and kayaking facilities. These service providers take you and your canoe to the upper river by bus. Life jackets are provided by the service provider.
Les Charmettes is located along a circular hiking trail (2 hours). This trail is also linked to other marked trails.
Being in an agricultural area, there are many other unmarked trails through the woods and forest nearby.
These trails can also be used for mountain bike.
Boules are available in the gîte.
If you can't survive without cricket, there are local cricket teams in the area.
The nearest gardens are those ofEyrignac, Marqueyssac and L'Imaginaire. They all offer something unique to the garden lover.
Local markets
Each village has its own market on a specific weekday (or weekend). In summer, many villages have night markets. There are neighboring markets on Sunday (Rouffignac), Tuesday (Le Bugue), Wednesday and Saturday (Périgueux), Friday (Vergt) to name but a few.
